Aberdeen takes advantage of River Ridge mistakes

LACEY — Aberdeen jumped out early and often to take advantage of River Ridge’s mistakes during Friday’s Evergreen 2A baseball contest at River Ridge High School.

The Bobcats, utilizing some small ball to create chances, ran out to a 9-0 lead through 5 1/2 innings and rode the solid pitching of Collin Nord, Reilly Fairchild and Charlie Dietrich for a 9-3 victory over the Hawks.

Ashton Williamson and Nord each had two hits, with Nord’s two-run single in the fourth inning highlighting a four-run frame for the Bobcats (3-2, 3-3). Nord earned the win with four no-hit innings, striking out two and walking three.

River Ridge also walked eight batters, allowing Aberdeen chances to move runners along the basepaths.

“Colin was a little tired; he threw strikes and had 4-5 ball hit right back to him,” AHS head coach Shon Schreiber said. “Our 3-4-5 hitters (Williamson, Nord and Fairchild) have been hot. We’ve been practicing on small ball, keeping guys moving and we did that in the fourth. Also, we took advantage of their mistakes.”

Williamson, Fairchild and Devan Harke each had doubles and all three, along with Dietrich, knocked in one run.

Schreiber cited Kevin Gardner, who made his first start at left field, for his overall play.

In the junior varsity game, River Ridge won, 5-1.

On Tuesday, Aberdeen hits the road again to take on Tumwater.
