TUMWATER — The Aberdeen doubles team of Ali Morris and Rachael Schermer fell one win shy of state after splitting two matches in the District IV Class 2A Girls Tennis Tournament on Saturday.
The Bobcats fell to a Tumwater team, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, in a winner-to-state, loser-out match at Capital City Tennis Courts in Tumwater.
Morris and Schermer had earlier stayed alive by beating Danielle Tabor and Alexis Gjurasic of Capital, 6-2, 6-0.
Morris and Schermer had to win both matches to claim the third and final state berth.
“It was a tough way to end the season,” said AHS coach Ashley Kohlmeier. “The girls really wanted it and fought for every point. Rachael really wanted it for her senior year. The girls kept their head up the whole time and it was a fun season for me for my first year of coaching.”
