CHEHALIS —Breaking things open with four runs in the seventh inning, Aberdeen upended league-leading Chehalis, 5-2, in Evergreen 2A softball play on Monday at Chehalis.
Behind the stellar pitching of Grace Utto-Galarneau, Aberdeen took a 1-0 lead into the seventh. Alexxi Timmons opened the Aberdeen seventh with a single and Mo Donovan’s sacrifice bunt was thrown away for an error.
Utto-Galarneau then hit a two-RBI double to center field. and scored on Heather Dublanko’s bunt. Ally Jennings, pinch-running for Dublanko, stole third and continued home on a bad throw.
The seventh-inning outburst proved necessary for the Bobcats (11-6, 11-7), as Chehalis scored twice in its half of the final inning.
Shannon Chesterman had two hits for the Bobcats, including a double.
“They (the Bearcats) had a tough pitcher and we worked hard to put the ball in play,” said AHS head coach Jeff Timmons. “We capitalized on their errors and we stole bases so we played small-ball against them.”
Coach Timmons commended Utto-Galarneau for her pitching. He also thanked assistant coach/pitching coach Katriina Reime for calling an outstanding game.
Today, the same two teams will meet for Senior Night at the Bishop Athletic Complex.
