Bobcats advance two relay teams and diver to state consolation finals

FEDERAL WAY — A diver and two relay teams will represent Aberdeen in the consolation finals of the state 2A girls swimming & diving championships today at the King County Aquatics Center.

Aberdeen’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Naomi Wolfenberger, Keola Holt, Danielle Rowe and Shayna Wilson barely missed earning a berth in today’s championship finals, qualifying ninth with a personal-record time of 1:48.78. The top eight advanced to the championship finals, with the next earning spots in the consolation finals.

The 400 free relay squad of Rowe, Holt, Wilson and Linnea Davison wound up 11th with a time of 4:04.45.

Aberdeen’s Amber Rosché qualified 14th in diving. Her score was not available at press time.

Hampered by a hectic schedule that required her to compete in swimming and diving concurrently, Wolfenberger failed to make the cut in diving.

Bobcat coach Jan Simons noted that both her relay teams significantly bettered their state seeding.

“We had great swims,” she said. “The 200 free team was (seeded) 17th and finished ninth. They dropped a ton of time. I thought it was a great day for the girls.”
