The 107th Aberdeen-Hoquiam football game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Aberdeen’s Stewart Field.
The trans-Myrtle Street rivalry contest had been a Saturday afternoon contest for several years and a season opener for the past two.
School officials, concerned about a potential attendance falloff on a game played on the Saturday before Labor Day, agreed to shift the contest to the second Friday of the season. A Saturday contest was deemed impractical due to conflicts with Hoquiam’s Loggers Playday festivities.
Hoquiam won last year’s contest, 45-16. Aberdeen leads the series, 67-34-5.
The Grizzlies were impressive in a season-opening 49-13 rout of Class 2A Centralia last Friday. The Bobcats dropped the season opener to Montesano, 38-0.
In other Friday contests, Elma is at Eatonville, Raymond at Charles Wright Academy, North Beach at South Bend, Ocosta is home against Chief Leschi and Wishkah is at Taholah in other Friday night contests. North Beach-South Bend and Wishkah-Taholah are non-league matchups of league rivals.
Montesano faces Cascade Christian on Saturday night in a highly anticipated matchup of state 1A powers. That contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.
Lake Quinault visits Crescent on Saturday afternoon.
Willapa Valley hosts the Olympia junior varsity in a rare Thursday night contest.
