Coming from behind in each of the first two sets, Aberdeen pulled out a 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 win over Chehalis in an Evergreen 2A Conference volleyball match Tuesday at Sam Benn Gym.
Brittany Flohr’s serving helped the Bobcats overcome a 20-14 deficit in the first set. Aberdeen trailed 12-3 in the second stanza before Kiana Dixon went on a seven-point serving run to close the gap.
“We just didn’t give up,” said Bobcat coach Wilma Weber. “It was a great team effort all the way around. We had great saves and hustle plays. There were a lot of long rallies. The girls did a great job making smart choices tonight.”
The Bobcats (2-1, 2-3) put down 32 kills and served 13 aces as a team.
Chehalis won the JV match, 25-12, 20-25, 15-12. The Bearcats also took the C squad contest.
Aberdeen will participate in the South Whidbey Invitational on Saturday.
Grizzlies in three
ELMA — Hoquiam used a balanced attack to down Elma, 25-8, 25-19, 25-17, in Evergreen 1A League play on Tuesday at Elma.
Grizzly freshman Megan Gibson led the team with 24 assists. Chelsy Stewart added 12 kills, five aces and nine digs for the Grizzlies (2-1, 4-1). Tiffani Dhooghe contributed eight kills. Jessica Madison and Brandi Creviston had 11 digs apiece.
“We ran our offense well tonight,” said Grizzly coach Christine Nelson. “We had a balanced attack and are improving in every game. We are going in the right direction.”
Emily Gibson had five kills for the Eagles (0-2). Bethany Lipska contributed eight blocks.
“We were not consistent,” said Eagle coach Renee Volz. “When we were up, we played well, but we need to learn to be consistent.”
Hoquiam won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 25-21.
On Thursday, Elma travels to Rainier. Hoquiam hits the road to the South Whidbey Invitational on Saturday.
