C.C. Baseball/Softball — A tough day for Choker baseball, softball teams

TACOMA — Grays Harbor rallied in the eighth inning to force extra innings in the opener, but was run down by the Titans in the nightcap in an NWAACC Western Division baseball doubleheader loss on Saturday afternoon.

In the opener, the Chokers got four runs in the eighth inning to tie the game, but a one-out single by the Titans prevailed, 8-7, in 10 innings. In the nightcap, a five-run second inning gave the hosts plenty of room to operate in a 10-1, seven-inning victory.

Skyler Wheeler drove in four runs — on two-run doubles in the sixth and eighth innings — on three hits to lead the Chokers (4-9, 6-24). Jason Rosendal took the loss in relief of starter Justin Altmeyer.

In the second game, the Chokers trailed 10-0 before Kyle Weiler slugged an RBI double in the fifth inning for the team’s lone run. Derek Rubin took the loss on the mound in three innings of work.

Today, Grays Harbor will host Tacoma in another doubleheader at Olympic Stadium.
