Chehalis blanks Aberdeen, 3-0, in district girls soccer match

CHEHALIS — Playing for the third time this season, Aberdeen was able to stay closer to Evergreen 2A champion Chehalis, but couldn’t find a way to crack the scoreboard on Saturday night.

The host Bearcats got two goals from Rashelle Fisher and kept the Bobcats out of the net en route to a 3-0 victory in the District IV 2A girls soccer tournament opening round at Bearcat Stadium.

Fisher benefited from a loose ball in front of the Aberdeen goal in the 31st minute, getting an empty net goal for a 1-0 Chehalis (15-1 overall) lead.

After halftime, Meghan Ward made it 2-0 when her run into the penalty area resulted in a hard shot that went off AHS goalkeeper Alexxi Timmons in the 41st minute.

Aberdeen (6-10) had its best chance to get one goal back in the 50th minute. On a free kick from Ali Morris, senior Mo Donovan made a backdoor run that beat the field and hit the net. However, Donovan was called offside and the goal was wiped out.

Fisher ended the scoring when she poked in a shot in the 64th minute.

“Two of those goals, we were unlucky,” AHS head coach Fidel Sanchez said. “Statistically, we did a lot better against them than we did in the first two meetings. We had our chances. If you take away those unlucky goals, it is a 1-0 game.”

Aberdeen returns to action Tuesday night with a road trip to Ingersoll Stadium in Olympia to take on Capital in a district loser-out contest. Game time will be determined later.
