Chehalis overpowers Bobcat girls

CHEHALIS — Powered by Jamika Parker with 16 points and 14 rebounds, second-ranked Chehalis thumped Aberdeen, 58-24, in the quarterfinals of the District IV Class 2A Tournament on Friday at Chehalis.

The Bobcats (10-11) will play the loser of the Black Hills- Hockinson game in a loser-out contest tentatively scheduled at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday at either Chehalis or Centralia.

Bobcat Erica Manwell had missed practice due to illness and Mo Donovan was only able to play about half of the game due to an injured ankle, which left the Bobcats short-handed in the attempt to thwart Parker’s progress.

Emily Fisher led the Bobcats with six points. Tiana Blackburn grabbed eight rebounds and Kiana Dixon dished out four assists.

The Bobcats shot just 24 percent in the game and did not score in double figures in any of the quarters.

“We were down 13-6 after the first quarter and their (the Bearcats) size beat us on offensive rebounds,” said Bobcat head coach Aaron Roiko. “We played great defense, but we did not make too many of our shots.”

Coach Roiko praised Blackburn for her fine defensive effort and Lily Walsh for providing good energy offensively off the bench.
