Choker men and women fall


Clark College grabbed an early lead and held on to outlast short-handed Grays Harbor College, 102-94, in the men’s half of an NWAACC Western Divison co-ed basketball doubleheader Saturday at Sam Benn Gym in Aberdeen.

Clark College routed Grays Harbor, 90-29, in the women’s half of the co-ed doubleheader.

This was the season finale for both teams.

MEN

Penguins 102, Chokers 94

Philip Hertz led the Penguins (7-9, 14-11), with 26 points in a physical, competitive game. Clark College led 54-42 at halftime.

Jordan Bowman led the Chokers (3-13, 5-20) with 17 points and eight assists. Arthur Erholm added 14 points. Darijohn Eubanks dished out seven assists. Alex Richters swiped four steals to go with his five points.

Choker guard Riley Alvord, one of his team’s leading scorers of late, took an elbow to the face during the second possession of the game and was treated for a lip injury at Grays Harbor Community Hospital’s emergency room. Brett Davis and Jordan Hunt stepped up to play in his place.

WOMEN

Penguins 90, Chokers 29

Dominique Johnson led the Penguins (13-3, 15-11) with 25 points. The Penguins led 43-14 at halftime.

Halcyon Swisher led the Chokers (3-13, 7-17) with 10 points. Wenda Poleo added nine points on Sophomore Night for the Chokers.

Bianca Russell scored three points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out seven assists and swiped three steals.

The Choker women struggled offensively, hitting just 22 percent of their field-goal attempts.
