Unable to convert several scoring opportunities, Grays Harbor College was swept by Centralia, 1-0 and 8-3, in an NWAACC Western Division softball doubleheader Wednesday at the Bishop Athletic Complex.
Choker pitcher Jill Johnson allowed only two baserunners in the opening game while striking out 12. Both of Centralia’s two hits, however, came in the second inning, producing the game’s only run.
Centralia’s Kalynn Randt, meanwhile, scattered six hits — two by Erica Rydman — to blank the Chokers (7-5, 12-17).
Grays Harbor also outhit the Blazers, 13-11, in the second game. But Janice Knutz homered and drove in five runs to power the visitors.
Shannon Glenn had four hits in a losing cause for the Chokers. Although the Chokers are known for their power hitting, they failed to deliver an extra-base hit in either contest.
Grays Harbor coach Tom Sutera saluted Johnson’s pitching in both games.
“She did a really good job and the defense played well,” Sutera said. “We just didn’t get timely hits. We played well. It isn’t like we have to hang our heads. We just have to get ready for Highline on Friday.”
The Chokers host the T-Birds in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
