Chokers eliminated from tourney

PORTLAND, Ore. — Spokane Community College capitalized on Grays Harbor College’s errors to edge the Chokers, 9-8, and eliminate them from the NWAACC Softball Tournament on Saturday at Delta Park in Portland, Oregon.

Amanda Anderson had a home run in the sixth inning for the Chokers (18-22). Jasmine Gilmore and Jill Johnson each contributed doubles.

A three-run fifth inning by the Sasquatch proved the difference.

“We had a few errors that gave them extra chances,” said GHC coach Tom Sutera. “With a good team like that you can’t make mistakes or they walk away with a win. They pitched around Anderson and wouldn’t let her hit until her home run in the sixth.”

Sutera praised Anderson for her home runs in the tournament and for being nominated for All-American recognition.

This was the season finale for the Chokers, who made their second successive NWAACC appearance.
