OLYMPIA — Falling short in a late comeback, the Grays Harbor College men lost to South Puget Sound, 65-63, in NWAACC Western Division basketball play on Saturday at Olympia.
The Chokers (1-5, 3-12) trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half and were still down by 10 in the final five minutes of the game.
They pulled to within two points in the final one and one-half minutes and had one opportunity to score following the rebound of a missed Clippers free throw. A final shot did not drop.
Riley Alvord led the Chokers with 13 points and three assists. Arthur Erholm and Alex Richters pulled down seven rebounds apiece to go with their 10 points. Tyler Harrod scored 11 points.
Cole Popowicz was the leading scorer for the Clippers (1-5, 4-11), with 19 points.
On Wednesday, the Choker men will host Green River Community College.

OLYMPIA — Ahead throughout most of the game, Grays Harbor College surrendered enough free throws to South Puget Sound to give up the lead permanently in the final minutes of NWAACC Western Division play on Saturday at Olympia.
The Choker women led 26-22 at halftime. They were up by seven points with four minutes remaining in the game.
“We put them at the free throw line too many times at the end and they knocked them in,” said GHC head coach Christine Nelson. “We had one opportunity for a 3-point shot at the buzzer, but missed. The girls played hard.”
Bianca Russell led the Chokers (0-6, 4-11), with 16 points and seven rebounds. Wenda Poleo had a double-double for the Chokers- 12 points and 10 rebounds. Bobbi Britt grabbed nine rebounds to go with her 10 points. Molly Carmody dished out five assists to go with her 10 points.
McKenzie Raben led the Clippers (1-5, 2-12), with 22 points.
On Wednesday, the Choker women will host Green River Community College.
