Colabello’s first MLB home run delivers Twins a win

SEATTLE — Chris Colabello’s two-run home run in the 13th inning gave Minnesota a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.

Colabello’s first major-league homer, off Seattle reliever Yoervis Medina, snapped a 1-1 tie.

Kendrys Morales homered to lead off Seattle’s half of the 13th. Kyle Seager followed with a single, but Justin Smoak grounded into a double play to end the threat.

Mariner ace Felix Hernandez took a three-hitter and a 1-0 lead into the ninth inning. The Twins, however, tied it when pinch-hitter Trevor Plouffe’s one-out single scored Pedro Florimon from second base.

Hernandez wound up pitching nine innings, allowing five hits and striking out 11.

The Mariners received bad news earlier in the day when rookie catcher Mike Zunino was diagnosed with a broken bone in his hand. He’ll undergo surgery and be lost for at least six week.
