Cold-shooting Choker women drop season opener

YAKIMA — Plagued by cold shooting and a slow start, the Grays Harbor College women dropped their season opener to Treasure Valley, 68-60, in the first round of the Yakima Valley Tipoff Basketball Tournament on Friday.

The Chokers will face Lower Columbia in a loser-out contest at 11 a.m. today.

Shooting only 21 percent from the field, Grays Harbor fell into a 30-16 hole at the half. The Chokers rallied to within four with about two minutes remaining, but the Chukars from Eastern Oregon sealed the victory from the foul line.

“We actually outrebounded them and we outrebounded them on the offensive boards,” Grays Harbor coach Christine Nelson said. “We had a tough time finishing tonight. That’s something we’ve really got to work on.”

Bobbi Britt, a freshman from Anchorage, Alaska, topped GHC with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Wenda Poleo, another Anchorage product, added 10 points and six boards.
