For the first time in its long and storied history, The Daily World Pro Football Forecasting Contest will undergo a mid-season rules change.
Beginning this week, there will be a moratorium on selecting Jacksonville Jaguars games as the Lock of the Week. More specifically, panelists are prohibited from picking Jacksonville’s opponent in that category. Panel members are still welcome to predict a victory by the winless Jaguars as a lock.
This moratorium will last until the Jaguars win or the 2016 season, whichever comes first.
The rule change may have come one week too late for Sports Editor Rick Anderson or Vidette reporter David Haerle. Both selected a non-Jacksonville game as their Lock of the Week and paid the price as the New York Jets upended Atlanta.
Haerle did, however, foresee Indianapolis’ victory over the Seattle Seahawks, the pivotal game in last week’s contest. With a 9-4 record, he regained the undisputed contest lead at 46-26, a .639 percentage.
He leads Anderson (8-5 last week) by one game and sports writer Rob Burns (also 8-5) by three in the season standings.
Guest forecaster Eric Potts went 6-7 last week.
Dan Weber of Aberdeen is this week’s guest. A running back and cornerback on Hoquiam High School’s legendary “4 and 5 and Still Alive” 1976 state runner-up team, he graduated from Hoquiam in 1977 and is a project manager at Sunset Air. A Seahawks fan, he unhappily witnessed last week’s loss to the Colts in Indianapolis.
The panel unanimously pick Seattle to rebound at home against Tennessee on Sunday, with all but Burns regarding this game as the non-Jaguars Lock of the Week.
