District 13-year-old Babe Ruth tourney opens Friday

ELMA — Three teams will compete for two state berths in the District III 13-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament this weekend at Elma’s Eagle Field.

Grays Harbor (the combined Aberdeen-Hoquiam-East Grays Harbor club) will open against Twin Cities from Centralia-Chehalis at 11 a.m. Friday. Mount St. Helens is the other entry and will face Grays Harbor at 5 p.m. Friday.

Each team will play four round-robin games Friday and Saturday. The team with the best round-robin record will clinch a state berth and advance directly to the championship game at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The other two clubs will play a winner-to-state, loser-out game at noon Sunday.

If either Friday’s or Saturday’s program is rained out, the seeding for Sunday will be based on the other day’s round-robin results.

The Southern Washington State Tournament is scheduled July 17-21 in Longview.

The round-robin schedule:

11 a.m. — Grays Harbor vs. Twin Cities. 2 p.m. — Twin Cities vs. Mount St. Helens. 5 p.m. — Mount St. Helens vs. Grays Harbor.

Saturday’s schedule will be identical to Friday’s, with different home teams.
