District IV 2A and 1A baseball tournaments kicks off Tuesday

Teams representing Grays Harbor’s four largest schools will open district baseball competition on Tuesday.

Aberdeen will travel to Brush Prairie to face Hockinson in the opening round of the District IV 2A tourney.

Montesano, Hoquiam and Elma are all scheduled to begin play in the district 1A tournament the same day.

Aberdeen enters district competition as the third-seeded entry from the Evergreen 2A Conference.

First-round games in this double-elimination event will be played Tuesday at the site of the higher-seeded teams.

Wednesday’s second-round games will be split between Chehalis’ Bearcat Stadium and Centralia’s Ed Wheeler Field at Fort Borst Park.

The tourney will conclude Friday and Saturday at Chehalis. The top three teams advance to regional competition May 19.

Evergreen 1A champion Montesano will take on Ridgefield at Toledo, while Hoquiam faces La Center at Winlock and Elma opposes Trico League champion Kalama at Castle Rock in opening-round games.

Win or lose, all teams will play a second game Tuesday. The two double winners will clinch regional berths and play for the district championship at 3 p.m. Saturday at Castle Rock. The four teams that split on Tuesday will compete in winner-to-regional, loser-out affairs Friday, also at Castle Rock.

The top four finishers qualify for regionals.
