Donovan’s foul shooting helps Cats turn back Cougars

OLYMPIA — Sending Mo Donovan to the foul line was money in the bank for Aberdeen’s girls Thursday night.

The Aberdeen senior canned 12 of 13 free throws to help the Bobcats beat Capital, 41-31, in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls basketball game at Olympia.

Donovan finished with 16 points, while Kiana Dixon scored 9 of her 11 points in the second half for the Bobcats (5-6, 10-9).

Up 22-13 at the half, the Bobcats saw their lead shrink to three as Dixon and Emily Fisher encountered foul trouble in the third quarter.

But Dixon returned to lead a fourth-quarter surge, while Donovan made 7-of-8 free throws in the final eight minutes.

Dixon grabbed 10 rebounds, as did Ericka Manwell. The latter was also cited for strong defense.

“Our rebounding was much better overall..and I think our defense is coming on,” Bobcat coach Aaron Roiko said. “We still have to get into a rhythm offensively.”

The district-bound Bobcats close out league play Tuesday night at home against Centralia.
