BELL, Fla. — Tyler Colton drove in four runs as Lake Quinault opened its Southeastern baseball road trip by outslugging Bell, 13-10, on Saturday.
The Elks (2-1) committed four of their six errors in a seven-run Bell second inning that gave the Bulldogs from North Central Florida a 7-5 lead.
Lake Quinault regained the lead, 12-7, with a five-run fifth inning that included Richy Carlile’s two-run double and Jorge Ochoa pinch-hit two-run single.
“It would have been easy to get down with the humidity and heat,” Quinault coach Keith Samplawski summarized, “but we fought back and got the lead and kept it.”
Colton’s output included a two-run single and a run-scoring double.
Samplawski cited winning pitcher Dylan Dorhofer for working a scoreless fourth inning and enabling staff ace Carlile to remain eligible for Monday’s contest with Seminole County, Ga.
Temperatures were in the high 70s — not that much warmer than Grays Harbor, but with higher humidity.
The Elks attended a Florida-Mississippi college game Friday night and will spend today in Orlando, where they are scheduled to tour Universal Studios and embark on a charter fishing trip.
