Elma clinches playoff berth by blanking Forks, 2-0

FORKS — Elma secured third place in the Evergreen 1A boys soccer standings on Tuesday with a mud-soaked 2-0 victory over host Forks.

The Eagles (7-7, 7-7) will take on the Trico League No. 4 seed in the opening round of the District IV 1A tournament on Saturday. The game location and opponent will be determined at a later date.

In the 60th minute, the Eagles found a way to get onto the scoreboard when Trevor Hann knocked home a volley shot into the upper right corner for a 1-0 lead. Zach Davis got the assist, resending a clearned corner kick into the penalty area that Hann got a foot onto.

Ten minutes later, Edgar Hermenegildo made it 2-0 when he sent a well-placed 25-yard shot into the upper left corner that was just nicked by the Forks goalkeeper.

“Overall, it was a good game,” Elma head coach Carson Seaberg said. “It rained on us for the warmup and there was standing water on the field, which makes it difficult to play good soccer.”

On Thursday, Elma hosts Montesano to cap off the regular season.
