Elma girls down touring Aussies


ELMA — Megan Finger scored 24 points as Elma downed a touring team from Mornington, Australia, 61-55, in a girls basketball game Monday at Elma.

Finger hit three 3-pointers, while also collecting eight rebounds and four steals. Brooke Goldsmith added 12 points, seven steals, six rebounds and five assists for the Eagles (8-3)

Elma led 39-21 at the half and by as many as 20 points in the second half.

“We came out strong in the first half,” Elma coach Lisa Johnson commented. “The defense let up and we slowly allowed them to get back into the game.”

The Eagles will return to Evergreen 1A League play tonight at home against Rainier.
