Flu-ravaged GHC swept by Highline

DES MOINES — Down to just nine players due to the flu, other illness, injury and academics, Grays Harbor College fell behind Highline College and couldn’t catch up in a 76-61 NWAACC Western Division men’s basketball loss on Wednesday.

Tyler Harrod led the Chokers (1-4, 3-11) with 13 points and Alex Richters and Jeff Harris added 11 points each. Nolan Wyatt pulled down nine rebounds, with four others with five boards.

“We had a lot of offensive struggles,” GHC head coach Jordan Altman said. “We were undermanned from the get-go. Half of my team hasn’t practiced all week.”

On Saturday, GHC travels to South Puget Sound.

DES MOINES — A hot-shooting Highline club answered Grays Harbor College’s 2-point baskets with 3-pointers to pull away with the win in this NWAACC Western Division women’s basketball contest on Wednesday.

Bobbi Britt led all scorers for GHC (0-5, 4-10) with 25 points. Grace Beardemphl led the T-Birds (3-3, 9-8) with 23 points, including 7-for-10 shooting from behind the 3-point line.

“It was a better game; we had good effort,” GHC head coach Christine Nelson said. “We’re just getting over the flu, so we’re battling back from that. Highline shot really well. That hurt us. They shot better from the 3s, while we would hit 2s. That isn’t going to cut it.”

On Saturday, GHC travels to South Puget Sound.
