The rains brought an unexpected benefit for Grays Harbor College baseball on Tuesday afternoon, but it was a pitching clinic by Ryan Snyder that helped the Chokers reap the advantage on Tuesday.
Snyder scattered two hits, never allowed Green River College to gain a foothold and he got run support from his teammates to secure a 10-2 NWAACC Western Division victory at Ken Waite Field.
The Chokers (4-7, 6-22) sit in fourth place in the division and now own their first division series victory in recent memory.
A second game that was scheduled for Tuesday was rained out and will be placed at the end of the regular season — to be played if necessary.
“This was a first for GHC in quite some time and the guys were excited,” GHC head coach Curtis Eccles said. “It was nice to see the guys hit the ball. This was the most runs and most hits we’ve had this season and we got a great performance from Snyder. He did a fantastic job, similar to what (Justin) Altmeyer did on Sunday.”
Kyle Weilder’s three-run double in the second inning gave the Chokers the lead for good at 5-1. Weiler and Jordan Churchill each had three hits, with Churchill driving in two runs as well.
On Saturday, GHC will hit the road to take on Tacoma Community College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
