GHC softball warms up its bats, but fall in two games; baseball swept


RICHLAND — Unable to capitalize on a 15-hit performance in its second contest, Grays Harbor College dropped its final two games in the Columbia Basin Preseason Softball Tournament on Sunday.

The Chokers fell to Blue Mountain, 13-2, and host Columbia Basin, 15-11.

Down 11-2 after 3 1/2 innings against Columbia Basin, the Chokers fell short with a comeback that netted five runs in the final two innings.

Jasmine Gilmore went 4-for-4 and drove in seven runs in that game. Her output included a home run and double. Erica Rydman added three hits and two RBIs

Blue Mountain used a seven-run fourth inning to take command in Sunday’s first game.

Shannon Glenn and Kayela Onasch had two hits apiece for the Chokers in that contest.

The Chokers (1-3) will compete in a tournament in Happy Valley, Ore., this weekend.

BASEBALL Chokers drop pair

LACEY — Olympic College pushed across in the ninth inning to nip Grays Harbor College, 1-0, in the first game of a non-league doubleheader Sunday at the RAC complex in Lacey.

The Rangers also took the nightcap, 13-2.

The Chokers (0-4) squandered outstanding pitching by Justin Altimeyer in the opening game. A right-hander from Freeman in Eastern Washington, Altimeyer allowed only five hits and three walks.

Grays Harbor mustered 11 hits against Olympic, with Cameron Duckett and Dylan Deckert collecting two hits each.

The Chokers return to RAC on Saturday to face Shoreline Community College.
