Grays Harbor 15s open state pool play with a rout of Castle Rock


CASTLE ROCK — A balanced attack and consistent defense proved to be a winning formula for Grays Harbor’s 15-year-old all-stars.

The Harborites trounced Castle Rock, 13-2, in the opening day of pool play Saturday in the Southern Washington State 15-year-old Babe Ruth Tournament at Castle Rock.

Grays Harbor will continue round-robin pool play today at noon with Pasco. Pool play will conclude Monday, with the single-elimination portion of the tourney slated for Tuesday.

Ricky Escalante earned Grays Harbor’s game MVP award, with three hits (a double and two singles), three RBIs and four stolen bases. Thomas Hughes had two RBIs, with two hits and two stolen bases.

Grays Harbor manager Marty Ayres cited Kegan Bridges for great pitching. He also hit the only triple in the game.

Conner Stolen and Chris Ayres each collected two hits, with two RBIs apiece.
