Grays Harbor College brings back holiday tournament

Grays Harbor College will revive a traditon by hosting a men’s basketball tournament this weekend.

The Grays Harbor College Classic is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Aberdeen’s Sam Benn Gym. It will be the first such GHC event since the Cold Turkey Tournament — a post-Thanksgiving staple for several decades — was discontinued a few years ago.

Game times are 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday.

The host Chokers (1-3) will face Wenatchee Valley (0-3) in the second game of Saturday’s program. Northwest Indian College will meet a semi-pro team,, in the 3 p.m. opener. The semi-pro club replaces Portland Bible College (a member of the National Chrtistian Collegiate Athletics Association), which was a late scratch.

Winners will square off for the tournament championship at 3 p.m. Sunday. The third-place game is planned for 1 p.m.

This tourney represents the only home appearance by the GHC men until NWAACC conference play begins Jan. 5.
