Hoquiam’s Klein fourth in state senior golf


FEDERAL WAY — Gretchen Klein of Hoquiam placed fourth in the Washington State Golf Association Women’s Senior Amateur golf tournament that concluded Thursday at Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club in Federal Way.

With a final round of 82, Klein finished with a 54-hole total of 244. Lisa Smego of Olympia won her third state senior title with a 233 total, finishing seven strokes ahead of her nearest challenger.

Former Harborite Ann Swanson of Bellevue, with a closing 86, wound up 10th at 254.

Alexis Keating of Elma tied for sixth in the open division of the state amateur being staged concurrently at the same course. A member of the University of Colorado golf team, Keating finished with a 75 for a 231 total.

Washington State University golfer Mallory Kent of Tukwila won that tourney with a 224 total.
