Hoquiam boys rout Forks in soccer, 7-0

Jonathan Molina scored a hat trick and Israel Fernandez added two goals as Hoquiam kept its Evergreen 1A League boys soccer record perfect with a 7-0 rout of Forks on Thursday at Sea Breeze Oval.

The Grizzlies (6-0, 6-1) led 5-0 at the half and used crisp passing to set up most of their scoring chances.

“Our goal was to open up the game by using the width of the field,” HHS coach Fidel Sanchez said.

Freshman Alex PugaDeLaRosa opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Molina’s 18-yard shot was partially blocked by Forks goalkeeper Josh Rice, but the ball slipped out from underneath Rice’s foot and PugaDeLaRosa cleaned up the rebound.

Molina scored the next three goals. He one-timed a pass from Osiel Rivera into the net in the eighth minute, converted a Brenner Carlstrom throw-in that the Spartans were unable to clear in the 13th minute and took a pass from Mario Joya and the dead run and fired in the shot in the 19th minute.

Edgar Fernandez, off a cross from Molina, completed the first-half scoring for the Grizzlies.

Israel Fernandez hit a direct kick early in the second half and lofted a shot over the goalkeeper’s head in the 52nd minute.

Grizzly goalkeeper Jamie Bigbie notched his fourth shutout of the season.

PugaDeLaRosa and Carlstrom were cited for all-around play.

The Grizzlies will return from spring break by visiting Elma on April 9.
