With Hoquiam one of the sites, Grays Harbor teams will open Southern Washington State Babe Ruth competition next week.
The state 14-year-old tourney opens Tuesday at Olympic Stadium. Grays Harbor district championship teams will also compete in the 15-year-old state tournament starting Monday in Pasco and the 13-year-old tourney opening Wednesday in Longview.
All tournaments will follow the “festival” format. Three days of round-robin pool play will determine seedings for the single-elimination quarterfinals and semifinals.
The top seeds in each division advance directly to the semifinals. The second and third seeds will square off in the quarterfinals, while the teams with the worst records in each pool will be eliminated.
Pool play in the 14-year-old tourney runs through Thursday. The quarterfinals and semifinals are planned for Friday, with the championship game billed for 10 a.m. July 20.
Since the District I tournament is still in progress, information on the qualifiers were unavailable at press time.
