Making extensive use of upperclassmen on Senior Night, Hoquiam easily maintained its Evergreen 1A League volleyball lead with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-11 rout of Tenino on Tuesday at Hoquiam Square Garden.
The Grizzlies (10-1, 12-1) wrapped up at least a share of the league championship. They lead runner-up Montesano by one game entering Thursday’s league finale on the Bulldogs’ court.
Hoquiam would clinch the undisputed league title with a victory. The Grizzlies could also secure the Evergreen’s top district seed with a five-set loss. District competition begins on Oct. 31 at Montesano and Castle Rock.
Tiffani Dhooghe, Chelsy Stewart, Jessica Madison, Angela Walker and Kayla Boone were honored in Senior Night ceremonies. All saw considerable action in the one-sided triumph.
“There were times when we had five seniors and a freshman (setter Megan Gibson) on the floor,” HHS coach Christine Nelson noted. “I let them play and they did a great job, all of them.”
Dhooghe led Grizzly hitters with nine kills. She also served four aces.
Stewart added seven kills and 13 digs, while Gibson handed out 14 assists.
The Grizzlies also took the JV match in two sets.
