OYEHUT — Winning five titles, Hoquiam captured team honors in North Beach High School’s Bash at the Beach wrestling tournament on Saturday.
The Grizzlies amassed 178 1/2 points to finish 39 points ahead of runner-up Knappa, Ore. Adna was third with 120 and Willapa Harbor fourth with 117.
“It was a very impressive performance,” Hoquiam assistant coach Jason Garman said. “They were on all cylinders starting out the tournament and they continued on through the end of the tournament. They started strong and finished strong.”
Hoquiam’s Jonathan Molina avenged a loss from last weekend’s Montesano Invitational by decisioning Monte’s Kylar Prante, 6-3, in the 152-pound title match.
Jesse Velez at 120 pounds, Tristan Stutesman (132), David Molitor (138) and Osiel Rivera (145) were Hoquiam’s other champions.
All five Twin Harbors schools that competed in the meet won at least one championship.
Willapa Harbor’s Hunter Borden and Matthew Boyes won at 182 and 195 pounds, respectively. Montesano’s Jacob Izatt prevailed at 126, Ocosta’s Brian Hart at 160 and North Beach’s Daniel Fruh nabbed the heavyweight title.
Hart dominated North Beach’s Kaleb Towery, 14-1, in the 160-pound final. Ocosta coach Kevin Goodrich also cited Drew Angelus and Connor Maben, each of whom placed third, for strong showings against eventual champions in the semifinals.
