Recently, the Aberdeen High School Wrestling Booster Club sponsored Oregon State University associate wrestling coach Troy Steiner for a one-day technique clinic.
We had more than 65 kids participating, representing eight area high schools and several youth programs. Coach Steiner did an outstanding job of not only teaching technique, but also discussed proper nutrition, strength training and pre-match preparation.
This event would not have been possible if it were not for the support of many individuals and organizations. We’re grateful for the financial contributions and support of the Aberdeen Firefighters Association, the Aberdeen Police Officers Guild and Juicy Tan.
In addition, the Aberdeen School District maintenance Department provided logistical support and the kitchen staff at AHS created 72 wonderful box lunches.
Furthermore, I would like to thank all of the high school and youth coaches who brought wrestlers. Finally, I would like to thank Aberdeen High School Principal Rocky Rocquin for his behind-the-scenes support. This was truly a team effort by all involved.
As winter begins to set in and you need something to do, go out and support your local high school wrestling program and be ready to hang on to the edge of your seat.
