Local teams open district baseball Tuesday

Four Grays Harbor teams will begin their quest for regional berths in district baseball tournaments this week.

Aberdeen will visit Ridgefield for the opening round of the District IV Class 2A Tournament on Tuesday. That contest is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at View Ridge Middle School in Ridgefield.

Win or lose, the Bobcats will be back in action Wednesday against either Chehalis or Capital at Centralia or Chehalis. If they win Tuesday, they would play a district semifinal game at 4 p.m. at Chehalis. If they lose, they would face a loser-out contest at 4 p.m. at Centralia.

The double-elimination tournament runs through Saturday, with the top three teams advancing to regionals.

Evergreen 1A League champion Montesano and league runner-up Hoquiam will head south for the district 1A tournament.

The unbeaten Bulldogs, the state’s top-ranked 1A team, faces Kalama at noon at Toledo. The Grizzlies will trek to Castle Rock to take on La Center at the same time.

All district 1A qualifiers will play twice on Tuesday, with the second games planned for 3 p.m. Double winners advance to Saturday’s district championship contest at Castle Rock. Two-time losers on Tuesday will be eliminated. The four teams that split Tuesday will remain in the running to earn two of the district’s four regional berths.

Pacific League champion Ocosta will be the first Harbor team to take the field this week. The Wildcats will host Toutle Lake at approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday as part of a district 2B doubleheader at Westport’s GAR Park.

The 2B tourney also runs through Saturday, with the remainder of the tourney at Mossyrock and Adna. Five of the eight qualifiers earn regional berths.
