Monte girls shut down Tenino; boys trounced

TENINO — Limiting Tenino to three points in the first half, Montesano’s girls breezed past the Beavers, 50-23, in the first half of an Evergreen 1A League co-ed doubleheader Friday at Tenino.

Forcing 23 turnovers in the first half, the Bulldogs (4-4, 9-6) led 15-0 after one period and 32-3 at the half.

Monte coach Julie Graves said her team performed well in both aspects of the game.

“We played really well at the defensive end,” Graves said. “On offense, we were moving the ball and knocking down shots.”

Megan Choate and Bobbi Fry topped the Bulldogs with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Fry also had six of her team’s 21 steals.

Graves cited three freshmen — Tianna Schurr, Cortney Miller and Kasie Kloempken — for their play in the second half.

The Bulldogs visit South Bend in a non-league today.
