CHEHALIS — Montesano put on a power show to win its first two games in the District III Little League Major League baseball tournament in Chehalis.
Blasting 10 home runs in its two contests, Monte crushed Capitol, 22-1, on Saturday and Larch Mountain, 19-2, on Sunday. The games were shortened to four and five innings, respectively, via the 10-run mercy rules.
The only Grays Harbor County team entered in this tourney, Monte will face Chehalis a winners bracket final scheduled for 7 tonight at Stan Hedwall Park.
Chehalis trounced Willapa Harbor, 15-5, in a tourney opener Saturday. Monday night’s results were unavailable at press time.
Montesano also won its first two games in the district 9-10 tournament at Monte’s Nelson Field. The host team will face Larch Mountain at 7 tonight.
Both tourneys are scheduled to conclude Friday, with a second championship game (if necessary) planned for Saturday.
MAJOR LEAGUEMontesano 22, Capitol 1 (4 innings)
Teegan Zilyett drove in 10 runs with three homers — including a grand slam — in Montesano’s rout of Capitol. Zillyett also doubled in the contest.
Kyle Trout added a home run and two doubles while Jett Bowers’ three hits included a homer and a double. Winning pitcher Payson Parker also homered while Parker Plato doubled twice.
Montesano 19, Larch Mountain 2 (5 innings)
An 11-run fifth inning enabled Monte to close out this game via the mercy rule.
Dakoyta Reninger homered twice and drove in six runs for the winners. Lane Douglass added four hits, including a triple.
Zillyett’s three hits included his fourth homer of the tourney. Parker also homered in this game. Montesano used five pitchers to maintain maximum eligibility for the remainder of the tourney. Tracy Ridgway winning pitcher.
