OYEHUT — Alex Campos never allowed host North Beach a chance to get into this Pacific League matchup with Ocosta on Wednesday.
Campos struck out 10 and limited the Hyaks to just two hits as the Wildcats secured the league baseball title with an 8-0 victory.
“Campos threw well, threw strikes and kept them off-balanced,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said. “We chipped away, had runners on base in every inning. For these seniors, now they get the chance to hang up a banner in the gym as league champs.”
“Campos really pitched a great game, had us off-balanced,” North Beach assistant coach Bob Sutter said. “You aren’t going to win many games scoring no runs. Every inning, Ocosta got guys on base and they nickle-and-dimed us. The kids battled; we just couldn’t get anything on the board.”
Nate Krigbaum led Ocosta with three hits, all singles, and two RBI.
North Beach pitcher Mike Beck struck out four and walked two in the loss. Sutter cited Beck for his performance and Quinby cited Beck for his ability to get out of jams in the game.
Today, North Beach visits Northwest Christian. On Friday, Ocosta hosts Montesano’s junior varsity.

Softball Hyaks 10, Wildcats 9
OYEHUT — A lead-off double by Liz Garman in the bottom of the seventh inning turned into the game-winning and Pacific League-winning run when Liz’s sister, Maria, slugged an RBI triple on the next at-bat to lead North Beach past Ocosta on Wednesday.
The Wildcats led 8-3 after 3 1/2 innings before the Hyaks (3-0, 11-3) made their comeback with a four-run fourth inning.
“What really helped was good pitching by Cora Pope to keep Ocosta shut down and our fielding settled down,” North Beach head coach Maynard Reed said. “We gave up all of our errors in the (six-run) first inning. In the end, we got some timely hitting and good defense.”
Marya Pope’s bloop RBI single to right field tied the game in the sixth inning. Nikkie Linderman was credited with a double play in the top of the seventh inning and outfield Lorin Booth made a “great catch on the run” in right field to end the inning.
“(Marya’s) hit really sparked the team; you could feel the momentum shift there,” Reed added. “We have to learn not to give up runs early. The girls never get down and they find a way to win.”
Cora Pope picked up the win, striking out 12 and walking nine, for North Beach. Alex Sweeney earned the loss, striking out seven and walking 14, for Ocosta. Tiana Parker led the Wildcats with three hits and an RBI.
On Monday, North Beach travels to Naselle.
