One last time into the prediction breach for Old Sport

Since the Old Sport doesn’t predict post-season games (too much temptation to stick with homer picks) this will be our last time around this season. And this is actually the week that we’re dealing with some regular and some post-season games.

At least we don’t have to pick any more Aberdeen games. They were the Old Sport’s jinx team this year. For example, two weeks ago, we picked the Cats to win, and they lost by 29. So last week, we picked them to lose by 20 and they won.

Happily, that was our only wrong one in a 7-1 week, which brings the season record up to 61-14 wrong for an .813 percentage.

We’ll wind up our forecasting season with these.

TONIGHT

WINLOCK vs. OCOSTA at Stewart Field: A victory for winless Winlock would indeed be a cardinal upset…WILDCATS 20, CARDINALS 7.

LAKE QUINAULT at STATE DEAF: Comparative scores put this one off the charts…ELKS 54, TERRIERS 8.

FRIDAY

TOLEDO at HOQUIAM: There have been other years when the Grizzlies were our jinx team. Not this time around. We simply pick HHS to win big and go on to the next choice. The route to state honors will get tough soon enough for the Grizzlies, but not quite yet…GRIZZLIES 49, INDIANS 8.

CASTLE ROCK vs. MONTESANO at Stewart Field: The Bulldogs naturally like their own home field better — with or without a grandstand. But they’ve shown they can make themselves right at home at The Stew…BULLDOGS 42, ROCKETS 7.

ELMA at LA CENTER: No. 5-ranked La Center may or may not be actually fifth best in the state class 1A ranks, but the unbeaten Wildcats get the nod over improving Elma.. .WILDCATS 28, EAGLES 14.

MOSSYROCK at WILLAPA VALLEY: The Vikes’ (Valley’s) record has fewer blemishes on it than the Viks’ (Mossyrock’s) . The Lewis County club, on the other hand, has been facing a tougher schedule. Valley should be smarting from that Raymond game, though, and we’ll pick ‘em to bounce back…VIKES 21, VIKS 20.

NORTH BEACH at NAPAVINE: Napavine’s record is better, but the Hyaks have been known to pull surprises. We’ll have to guess not this time…TIGERS 24, HYAKS 14..

SATURDAY

TAHOLAH at MARY KNIGHT: Knight is unbeaten and deservedly so. Taholah is riding a five-game win streak after some early-season losses due to eligibility problems…CHITWHINS 36, OWLS 30.
