OYEHUT — Scoring 20 unanswered points in the second half, North Beach’s varsity wore down the Olympia junior varsity, 34-14, in a junior varsity football game Thursday night at Lt. Jim Davis Field.
Tyler Turner rushed fror 125 yards and one touchdown, while Pedro Gonzalez ran for 104 yards and three TDs as the Hyaks (2-2) amassed 325 yards on the ground.
Turner’s 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter broke a 14-all tie, with Carson Ketter passing to Gonzalez for the 2-point conversion. Jordan Chong added a 1-yard scoring run later in the third period, with Gonzalez scoring from 4 yards out in the fourth quarter.
“Our kids are well-conditioned,” North Beach coach Todd Bridge said. “The big thing in the second half was our kids up out fired up and stayed that way instead of being on an emotional roller-coaster.”
Gonzalez scored both of North Beach’s first-half touchdowns, on a pair of 1-yard runs. Logan Pine, whose family is from the Elma area, scored twice for Olympia.
Bridge cited the play of Cameron Keller and Corwin Siwert in the offensive line and Elijah Towery on defense. He also noted that the Hyaks began joining as a team to sing the alma mater for the first time following the contest.
North Beach returns to Pacific League play at Raymond next Friday.
