FORKS — Aaron Ross scored twice on a sloppy field as Montesano blanked Forks in an Evergreen 1A League contest Wednesday at Forks.

Ross headed in a corner kick by David Sawyer in the 12th minute to open the scoring. Six minutes into the second half, he finished off a six-pass combination after accepting a cross from Joseph Pellegrino.

Kellen Church tallied the final goal in the 50th minute, hitting a 16-yard shot off a pass from Brandon Lovell.

“The field was a muddy mess and it was hard to stay on our feet,” Bulldog coach Jeff Lenherr said. “I was really happy with the effort level, especially under the conditions of the field.”

Church and defenders Kyle Black and Skye Jefferson were commended for their play.

The Bulldogs (3-9, 3-10) make the short trip to Hoquiam on Friday afternoon.

WHITE SALMON — Sweeping the singles, White Salmon topped Montesano in a Southwest Washington 1A League match Tuesday at White Salmon.

After squandering a 4-0 lead in a second-set tiebreaker, the doubles team of Johanna Brulotte and Bailey Malizia roared back to win the third set 6-0 for Monte’s lone victory.

In the contest’s most exciting match, White Salmon’s Kyla Fadness outlasted Bulldog freshman Ling Xing Schoch, 7-6, 7-6, in a No. 1 singles contest that lasted 2 1/2 hours. Many of the rallies lasted more than 20 strokes, according to Bulldog coach Theresa Helland.

“I was really happy with our play,” Helland said. “That was the most balls we ran down and dug out all year.”

The Bulldogs (1-3) are scheduled to make their home debut today against Castle Rock.
