River Ridge blitzes Aberdeen with a big second quarter for a 64-45 win

LACEY — Despite a late start, Aberdeen found itself in a game with River Ridge until the hosts blitzed their way into a huge halftime lead on Friday night.

The Bobcats stayed close with the Hawks for the first 12-plus minutes of the contest before the Hawks scored 17 points in the final 3:40 of the first half to command a 64-45 Evergreen 2A boys basketball win.

Charlie Dietrich led Aberdeen with 14 points. River Ridge’s Brad Wallace led all scorers with 30 points.

“The first quarter was great, but in the last 3 minutes of the second quarter, they got away,” AHS head coach Leonard Barnes said. “It was a full-court game, no one let up. We just didn’t shoot very well from the field and didn’t rebound in the second quarter. We got killed on the glass.”

Barnes cited his bench players for their contributions in the contest.

The varsity game started at 8:30 — a full hour behind schedule — due to the length of the two preliminary contests.

On Tuesday, Aberdeen (0-4, 3-8) stays home to greet Centralia.
