Grizzly alum cross country billed Saturday

A total of 23 schools are scheduled to compete in Hoquiam’s annual Grizzly Alumni Association Cross Country meet Saturday at Sea Breeze Oval.

The event begins at 9:15 a.m. with an open 5-kilometer run for adults and children. Registration for that portion of the event begins at 8:30.

The high school portion of the event begins with the frosh/soph race at 11:15 a.m. It will be followed by the girls junior varsity at 11:50 and the boys junior varsity at 12:35 p.m.

The girls varsity race is planned for 1:10 p.m., followed by the boys varsity at 1:45 p.m. A middle school race at 2:15 p.m. will conclude the program.

Hoquiam, Elma, Ocosta, North Beach and the Willapa Harbor schools are among the teams scheduled to compete.

Wrestling clinic due in Aberdeen

A Grays Harbor wrestling technique clinic is scheduled for Oct. 27 at Aberdeen’s Sam Benn Gym.

Oregon State University assistant coach Troy Steiner will conduct the clinic, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A four-time All-American at Iowa who won an NCAA championship in 1992, Steiner achieved a career record of 148-13 at 134 and 142 pounds.

The clinic is open to area high school and youth wrestlers.

The registration fee of $25 per athlete includes the cost of lunch. Checks should be be made payable to the Aberdeen High School Wrestling Booster Club.

While registration is scheduled for 8 a.m. the daily of the clinic, participants are asked to rsvp via email to Mike Machowek (mmachowek@asd5.org) no later than Oct. 19. That email should include their name, grade level, years of experience and weight.
