Aberdeen’s Nord

to sign with Yakima Valley

Aberdeen High School senior Collin Nord plans to sign a baseball letter of intent with Yakima Valley Community College, Bobcat coach Shon Schreiber announced this week.

Also a basketball standout, the left-handed Nord was one of the top two pitchers on a Bobcat baseball team that qualified for regionals last spring.

“I am excited that Collin has this opportunity to go and play for a great program that has been to the NWAACC championships the last two years,” Schreiber said.

State powerlifting meet due today in Aberdeen

The annual Washington State Full Powerlifting and Bench Press/Dead Lift Championships is scheduled for today at the Timber Gym, 500 East Market St., in Aberdeen.

The meet is open to lifters ranging from 13 years age through adults. Weigh-ins are planned from 8 to 9:30 a.m., with competition slated for approximately 10 a.m.

Competition will be in the teen, junior, submaster and master divisions. The entry fee is $55 for one division and $100 for two divisions.

Youth hoop tourney set for Elma

The Elma Blue Buzzsaw youth basketball tournament is scheduled for Feb. 16 at the Elma High School gym.

The tournament is open to fifth- through eighth-grade boys. Three games are guaranteed.
