Subdistrict swim meet set for Y

The subdistrict Class 2A boys swimming meet has been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at The YMCA of Grays Harbor pool in Hoquiam, Aberdeen athletic director Ken Ashlock reported. The meet’s site had been undetermined until Monday.

Monte, Hoquiam win C Squad tournaments

Montesano’s boys and Hoquiam’s girls earned titles at North Beach High School’s Winter Fest XIV C squad basketball tournament last week.

The Bulldogs downed host North Beach, 50-28, in the boys championship game. Montesano’s Alex Hopsecger led all scorers with 15 points, while Jake Herzog added 10 for the Bulldogs. Austin Perez topped North Beach with 10 points.

Montesano had previously defeated Raymond, 50-31, while North Beach edged Hoquiam, 45-44. Hoquiam took third place with a 45-36 win over Raymond.

Hoquiam used a balanced attack to down Ocosta, 37-24, in the girls title contest. Arielle Burnett scored seven points, while Megan Gibson, Brianna Hotchkiss and Brenda Valladolid tallied six points each. Ocosta’s Marsha Poulson led all scorers with 11 points.

Ocosta beat Raymond, 26-14, and Hoquiam edged North Beach, 25-20, in the semifinals. North Beach took third place with a 46-31 win over Raymond.

Raymond’s girls and Hoquiam’s boys received sportsmanship awards.
