Run planned Saturday in Elma

Faith Lutheran Church of Elma will sponsor a fun run Saturday.

The event will include 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs, beginning at the church (1296 Monte-Elma Road) at 10 a.m. A children’s run will follow the completion of the adult run.

The entry fee is $30 for the adult runs and $10 for the children’s run. Further information may be obtained by contacting. Registration will be accepted at the site.

Aberdeen Hall of Fame meeting set

The Aberdeen Hall of Fame committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the AHS community room.

Nominations for potential 2013 Hall of Fame inductees will be taken during the first portion of the meeting. Those wishing to submit nominations but unable to attend may contact a committee member or email Aberdeen athletic director Ken Ashlock at kashlock@asd5.org.

Youth hoop tourney due in Elma

Registration is being accepted for the Elma Blue Buzzsaw boys basketball tournament, scheduled for Feb. 16 at the Elma High School gym.

Sponsored by the Elma basketball boosters, the tourney is open to fifth-through-eighth grade boys. The entry fee is $175 per team, with three games guaranteed.

Grimstad aces at Ocean Shores

Bob Grimstad of Ocean Shores scored a hole-in-one Saturday at Ocean Shores Golf Course.

Grimstad used a 5-wood to ace the 162-yard ninth hole. Ron Lovett witnessed the shot.

Poggies to meet Wednesday

The Grays Harbor Poggie Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoquiam Elks Hall. Members are asked to bring leftover tickets and funds from the organization’s crab feed.

Wambach, Messi, win soccer awards

American Abby Wambach and former U.S. manager Pia Sundhage were named soccer’s 2012 women’s world player and coach of the year Monday at FIFA’s annual awards gala in Zurich, Switzerland.

On the men’s side, Lionel Messi, who scored a record 91 goals for Argentina and FC Barcelona last year, won best player honors for a fourth consecutive year.
