Spring black bear hunt applications due
Applications are being accepted for a spring black bear hunting permit applicable to specific areas of Western and Eastern Washington, the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife reported.
To be eligible for a permit, hunters must purchase and submit an application to the Fish & Wildlife Department by midnight on Feb. 28.
A drawing for 383 permits in Western Washington and 314 in Eastern Washington will be held in mid-March. Winners will receive their permits in the mail by March 31. Applicants may also check the results of the drawing at http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting on the agency website.
To apply for a permit, hunters must purchase a special permit application and a hunting license that includes bear as a species option. Hunters selected for the Copalis-area hunt must obtain a recreational use permit and may contact Tracie Lamb at Rayonier (855-729-4868).
Any legal weapon used during the modern firearm, archery or muzzleloader seasons can be used for spring black bear hunts. Bait or hounds are not allowed for bear hunting.
