Monte’s Novy wins in college meet
Tera Novy, USC freshman from Montesano, won the women’s shot put at the Trojan Invitational track & field meet last weekend.
Novy threw 45-1/4 feet on her first attempt of the season to finish 1 1/4 inches ahead of teammate Alex Porlier-Langlois.
She finished second in the women’s discus behind teammate Alexandra Collatz. But Novy’s mark of 166-8 — a personal best by 10 feet — moved her into ninth place on USC’s all-time list.
Louise Rota Relays set for Rainier
The Louise Rota Co-Ed Relays, traditionally staged at Montesano High School, has been shifted to Rainier due to the lack of grandstands and ongoing track repairs at Montesano.
The meet is scheduled for Thursday, with field events beginning at 4 p.m. and running events at 5. Relay squads are composed of two boys and two girls.
Hoquiam, Montesano, Elma, Rainier and Tenino are entered. The meet is named in honor of retired Montesano teacher and coach Louise Rota, who is expected to travel from her home in Florida to attend.
