Slowpitch fundraiser scheduled

A fundraising auction for the Aberdeen 40 et 8 adult slowpitch team is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the 40 et 8 Club, 2313 Simpson Ave., in Aberdeen.

The event begins at 3 p.m. Auction items are welcome and may be dropped off at the club. Chili dogs will be sold for $3. Further information may be obtained by phoning 532-4212.

Jags WR suspended four games

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon has been suspended without pay for the team’s first four games of the 2013 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Blackmon caught 64 passes for 865 yards and five touchdowns during his rookie season in 2012.

The 23-year-old Blackmon will be eligible to return to the Jaguars’ active roster on September 30 following the team’s September 29 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Kidd wins NBA Sportsmanship Award

Jason Kidd of the New York Knicks has been named the 2012-13 NBA Sportsmanship Award winner and is the recipient of the Joe Dumars Trophy for the honor.

Kidd received 91 of a possible 355 first-place votes and finished with 2,474 total points in balloting from NBA players.

The 40-year-old Kidd won the award last season as a member of the Dallas Mavericks. He is only the second player to win multiple NBA Sportsmanship awards, joining Grant Hill, who has been honored three times.

The winner is selected from six finalists, one for each league division. Kidd (Atlantic) was joined by Chicago’s Luol Deng (Central), Golden State’s Stephen Curry (Pacific), Memphis’ Mike Conley (Southwest), Oklahoma City’s Nick Collison (Northwest) and Orlando’s Jameer Nelson (Southeast).
