Harbor teams bow out of 2B district

North Beach and Ocosta each lost a pair of games to bow out of the District IV Class 2B Softball Tournament on Wednesday at Centralia.

The Hyaks fell to Pe Ell, 9-1, and Napavine, 16-0. The Wildcats lost to Adna, 26-0, and were eliminated by Onalaska, 16-1.

District 2A, 1A track due Friday

The District IV Class 2A and 1A track meets are scheduled for Friday.

Hoquiam, Montesano and Elma will be represented at the district 1A meet at Rainier. Field events start at 4 p.m., with the running events at 5. The top four from each event advance to state next week at Cheney.

Aberdeen will be among the participants in the district 2A meet at Washougal. Field events start at 4 p.m., with running events at 4:30. The top three in each event qualify for state at Tacoma.

Lake Sylvia to host kids-only fishing derby

Lake Sylvia in Montesano will host a kids-only fishing derby June 8.

Some 350 youngsters are expected to participate in the derby. The lake will be closed to public fishing prior to the event, from 6 p.m. June 7 to 6 a.m. June 8, the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife reported. The fish will be planted on the eve of the derby to better acclimate them to the water.
