Bobcats home for soccer tonight
Needing two victories to earn a state berth, Aberdeen will face Evergreen 2A Conference rival Capital in a District IV Class 2A Tournament boys soccer match tonight at Stewart Field. The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
With a victory, the Bobcats will host either Mark Morris or Centralia in a winner-to-state, loser-out contest on Saturday. That contest has been tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m.
Already assured of a state berth, Hoquiam will meet Seton Catholic for third place in the District IV Class 1A Tournament at 5 p.m. today at Kalama. This will be a seeding contest, with both teams advancing to state the following week.
Subdistrict track on tap
The postseason track and field season for Twin Harbors schools begins this week.
Elma will host Hoquiam and Montesano, among other schools, in the Evergreen 1A League/subdistrict meet Friday. Field events begin at 4 p.m., with the running events at 5 p.m. The boys and girls pole vaults were contested Wednesday at Montesano. The top four in laned events and top six in non-laned and field events qualify for district May 17 at Rainier.
Aberdeen will compete in the subdistrict Class 2A meet Friday at Chehalis. The meet will begin at 3:45 p.m. The top four in laned events and top seven in non-laned and field events advance to district May 17 at Washougal. The fifth place finishers in laned events will have their marks compared to their counterparts in the Greater St. Helens League meet to determine the final district berths.
The subdistrict 2B meet, which began Wednesday, concludes at 3:45 p.m. Friday at Naselle. The top four in laned events and top five in field events advance to district May 16 at Raymond.
District IV Class IB schools will combine with their District II counterparts for a subdistrict meet today at West Seattle Stadium. The top four in each event advance to a quad-district meet May 16 at Port Angeles.
District 1B softball set for Elma
Four Grays Harbor teams will compete in the District IV Class 1B softball tournament, scheduled for Saturday at Elma.
Taholah will face Lake Quinault and Wishkah takes on Oakville in loser-out semifinal contests scheduled for noon. The winners will square off for the district championship and the district’s lone state berth later that afternoon.
Harborites place in WSWGA best ball
Grays Harbor native Ann Swanson, who now lives in the Seattle area, teamed with Amy Walker of Tacoma to finish third in the Washington State Women’s Golf Association Best Ball Tournament that concluded Tuesday at Fircrest Golf Club near Tacoma.
Swanson and Walker finished with a 36-hole total of 146, two strokes behind champions Ginny Burkey and Lisa Smego, representing the Home Course in Dupont.
Gretchen Klein of Hoquiam teamed with Pat Terry to finish sixth at 153.
